Alphabet Soup colt brings $185K

he Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's August yearling sale in Ocala, Fla., was still producing some big prices as it entered its third of four open sessions on Thursday.

Hip No. 971, an Alphabet Soup colt out of the winning Gone West mare B Gone Blues, sold for $185,000 to W R C Thoroughbreds. Francis and Barbara Vanlangendock's Summerfield agency consigned the colt.

The colt was Thursday's highest price as of 5 p.m. at the auction.

The Wednesday open yearling session posted mixed results.

Topped by a $150,000 Macho Uno-Secret of Mecca colt, the Wednesday session sold 193 yearlings for $2,498,500, a decline of 2 percent from last year's figure after 201 horses sold. The average price, on the other hand, gained 2 percent at $12,946, while the median fell by 6 percent, from $8,000 to $7,500.
