Almost Time rallies for upset in Longden


VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Almost Time ($16.10) came from last to upset his heavily favored stablemate Teide in the $54,790 John Longden 6000 for 3-year-olds and up at Hastings on Sunday.

With Frank Fuentes aboard, Almost Time sat back while Teide and Tommy Danzigger hooked up early and dueled through fractions of 23.33 seconds, 46.33, and 1:10.70 through six furlongs. Almost Time took the lead at the top of the stretch and then drew off to win by 2 1/4 lengths over Teide. Senor Rojo made a late move along the rail to finish third in the four-horse field. Senor Rojo had to steady at the top of the stretch when he tried to get past Teide. After reviewing the incident, the stewards let the results stand.

Final time for the 1 1/16 miles was a very good 1:42.93, just shy of the track record of 1:42.20.

Almost Time and Teide are owned by Swift Thoroughbreds Inc. and trained by Dino Condilenios.

* On Saturday, Dyna Stroll moved to the head of the 3-year-old division at Hastings with a neck win over Sense of Humor in the $54,790 Jim Coleman Province Stakes. Ridden by apprentice rider Franco Geovanni, Dyna Stroll came from off the pace to catch Sense of Humor in the final few jumps.

Trained by Troy Taylor, Dyna Stroll paid $16.40. Final time for the 6 1/2 furlongs was 1:16.24.
