Allswellthatnswell triumphs in Stanford Stakes

SAN MATEO, Calif. - Allswellthatnswell ($5.20) raced very wide contesting the early pace down the backstretch, pulled away into the lane and was unchallenged as she earned her first stakes victory in the $68,137 Stanford Stakes at Bay Meadows on Sunday.

"I tried to lay third, but she's so competitive she wouldn't let me," said winning rider Ron Warren Jr., who rode the 3-year-old filly to a 11/2-length victory over I'mbethtoo for his brother, trainer Don Warren. Allswellthatnswell covered six furlongs in 1:09.21.

"I kept her very wide until we turned for home," Warren said. "Everything was real easy. I hit her to make her switch leads because my brother told me to.

"When the others started riding, she heard someone use his whip and she got into the bit on her own."

The Cal-bred filly earned her second victory in four starts for E.W. and Judy Johnston. She earned $39,675 to increase her career earnings to $84,494.
