All I Can Get rebounds in Spartan Stakes

Email

All I Can Get, the top juvenile in Michigan last year, avenged his loss in last month's Lansing Stakes with a resounding win in Tuesday's $50,000 Spartan Stakes at Great Lakes Downs. Under leading rider Freddie Mata, All I Can Get won by three lengths over Kentucky invader Candid Image, who was more than a length clear of Lansing winner Born to Tango.

All I Can Get, a gelded son of Slew City Slew, is owned by his breeder, Michael McQuade. His win in the Spartan put trainer Gerald Bennett on a par with Bob Gorham for leading trainer honors with 26 wins each. All I Can Get ran the seven furlongs in 1:28.20 after overcoming an awkward start.

In the June 12 Lansing Stakes, All I Can Get was squeezed back at the sixteenth pole and finished fourth. Jockey Mary Doser lodged an objection against the winner but it was not allowed by track stewards. The stewards' decision is currently under appeal to the racing commissioner by McQuade and Bennett.

* Doser, a former riding champion here, returned on Tuesday to ride second-place finisher Candid Image in the Spartan for her husband, trainer Scott Sowle. Doser was atop the standings here when she left last month to return to her Kentucky home after tiring of the constant travel between Michigan, Kentucky, and her out-of-town riding engagements.

* Mike Allen rode Valley Loot to victory in last Saturday's $50,000 Plymouth Stakes. It was Allen's third win from five stakes mounts at the meet. Through Tuesday's racing, Allen had 40 wins to Mata's 47.
