Alice du Pont Mills dead at 89

Alice duPont Mills, a prominent owner and breeder for many years, died on Wednesday after a brief illness, according to an online report by The Blood-Horse. Mills was 89.

Mills and her late husband, James P. Mills, campaigned the 1983 champion 2-year-old colt, Devil's Bag. Other top runners campaigned by the couple, the owners of Hickory Tree Farm in Middleburg, Va., were Believe It and Gone West.

In 1991, Mills was honored as Virginia's outstanding owner and breeder by the Virginia Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association.
