Alexander Tango dies after accident

EmailAlexander Tango, who won the Grade 1 Garden City Breeders' Cup on Sept. 8 at Belmont, has died after an accident at Woods Edge Farm in Kentucky, the Racing Post reported. An Irish-bred daughter of Danehill Dancer, Alexander Tango was 3.

Trainer Tommy Stack told the Racing Post that the accident happened at night "when something frightened her and she jumped rails, fatally injuring herself."

No date for the accident was reported.

Alexander Tango won Ireland's Group 3 1000 Guineas Trial and the Kilboy Estate Stakes earlier this year. She also finished second in Ireland's Group 2 Royal Whip Stakes this year and third in the Group 2 Robert H. Griffin Debutante Stakes in 2006.

In her last start, on Sept. 29, she ran seventh in the Flower Bowl Invitational. She had 4 wins from 12 starts, with earnings of $357,012.

Alexander Tango was out of the Woodman mare House in the Wood.
