ETOBICOKE, Ontario – A hard-ridden Aldous Snow held off a charging Perfect Timer to notch his first stakes Sunday at Woodbine in the Grade 3 Singspiel Stakes under Javier Castellano.

Quaesitor established slow fractions in the 12-furlong marathon, while Aldous Snow raced three wide in fifth on the backstretch. Aldous Snow made up ground along with last year’s Singspiel winner, Forte Dei Marmi, early in the stretch and assumed command in the final furlong before prevailing by a nose in 2:25.85 over the firm turf.

Dynamic Sky wound up third after pressing the pace, while the favored Forte Dei Marmi faded to fourth in the six-horse field.

It was the second stakes score of the day for trainer Malcolm Pierce, who also took the Grade 2 Dance Smartly with Overheard. Pierce said Aldous Snow has improved since being gelded before winning his previous start in allowance company.

“He used to be a bit of a playboy, but he’s a lot more focused,” Pierce explained. “He much more well-behaved now.”

Aldous Snow ($6.70) earned $108,000 of the $178,200 purse for Sam-Son Farm.
