Albarado gets fill-in agent

Jockey Robby Albarado will be represented on a temporary basis by agent Anthony Martin, who will tend to the veteran jockey's riding assignments while Lenny Pike, Albarado's longtime agent, goes on personal leave.

Martin, 20, said Monday that he is scheduled to begin booking mounts for Albarado for the Thursday program at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky., where Albarado will ride through the end of the spring meet, July 5. The length of the arrangement will be determined by when Pike returns and possibly could last through the end of the meet, said Martin.

Martin, the son of longtime Louisiana-based agent Tony Martin, most recently served as the assistant racing secretary at Fair Grounds and Evangeline Downs.

Albarado, 35, has been a perennial leading rider at major tracks throughout the Midwest and is best known as the regular rider of two runners during their Horse of the Year campaigns: Mineshaft (2003) and Curlin (2007-08). Since his first ride in 1990, he has won nearly 4,000 races and his mounts have earned nearly $149 million.
