Akronism pulls clear

Akronism overhauled front-runner Marina Ballerina at the sixteenth pole before edging away for a one-length win in the Grade 3, $157,800 Seaway Stakes at Woodbine.

It was the second Woodbine stakes score for the Delaware-based Akronism, who took the Grade 3 Royal North Stakes on turf in her previous start. She was prominent throughout in the Seaway and covered the seven furlongs in 1:21.51 under Eurico Rosa Da Silva.

"She broke well," Da Silva said. "She was on her wrong lead, because it was her first time on this track, and she switched her leads [again] very fast. From there on, she ran perfect. I just steered her around."

Akronism ($6.80) banked $90,000 for owner-breeder Robert Evans and trainer Tim Ritchey.

Marina Ballerina set quick fractions before ending up 4 1/4 lengths clear of Executive Flight, the third-place finisher in the seven-horse field of fillies and mares.
