Ahs Uncle Si left no doubt he was the best horse in the $200,000 Sunshine State Derby for Florida-bred Quarter Horses on Saturday at Hialeah Park. Breaking alertly from the rail under Rodrigo Vallejo, Ahs Uncle Si ($3.60) surged to the front, opened up by 3 1/2 lengths in midstretch, and scooted home two lengths in front. He completed 400 yards in a hand-held time of 19.430 seconds. It was the fifth stakes victory of the meet for leading trainer Judd Kearl. Ahs Uncle Si, a son of Struttin to Beduino, had won his trial heat by a length but was disqualified and placed fifth for drifting out. He is now 2 for 5 lifetime. The filly Shes a Tourist, last of 10 at the start, rallied to get second as the 2-1 second choice, beating 19-1 outsider La Doncella Comminup by a length.
