Ah Day passes on Preakness

The connections of Ah Day have decided not to pay the $100,000 supplemental fee to run in Saturday's Preakness, thus a field of nine will go postward in Saturday's middle jewel of Thoroughbred racing's Triple Crown.

Ah Day will run in Saturday's Sir Barton Stakes on the Preakness undercard.

Meanwhile, Richard Migliore was named to ride Greeley's Legacy, meaning all horses now have riders. With riders, the field will be Barbaro (Edgar Prado), Brother Derek (Alex Solis), Sweetnorthernsaint (Kent Desormeaux), Bernardini (Javier Castellano), Greeley's Legacy (Migliore), Like Now (Garret Gomez), Diabolical (Ramon Dominguez), Hemingway's Key (Jeremy Rose) and Platinum Couple (Jose Espinoza).

Post positions for the Preakness will be drawn Wednesday afternoon at 5 p.m. in a one-hour telecast on ESPN.

At Belmont Park, Bernardini worked five furlongs in 1:01.29 over a muddy track. As of Wednesday morning, Platinum Couple was the only Preakness horse on the Pimlico grounds. Brother Derek was due in at around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon after a flight from Kentucky.

In other news, trainer Bernie Flint said Red Cherries Spin will scratch from Friday's Black-Eyed Susan Stakes.
