Ah Day fires late to win at Colonial

Ah Day came running late and got up in time to win the $50,000 Chesapeake at Colonial Downs on Monday evening.

Jockey Sheldon Russell kept the 6-year-old Ah Day just off the early pace. They rallied in the stretch and took the lead late, winning by three-quarters of a length in field of four. Celtic Innis was second, 7 1/2 lengths in front of Sporty Boy in third. Ah Day covered the six furlongs over a track labeled as good in 1.09.46 and returned $4.20 to win.

Trained by King Leatherbury, Ah Day was coming off a victory at Delaware in an optional allowance event..
