Aglo Pilgrim set to score 20th victory

PORTLAND, Ore. - Aglo Pilgrim, who has won 19 races in a stellar career than has spanned six years, appears poised to win No. 20 in Friday's 10th race at Portland Meadows, a six-furlong race for $2,500 claimers that has attracted a field of 10.

Aglo Pilgrim, a multiple stakes winner in his best days, hasn't won in five starts at this meeting, but he showed readiness in his last two outings.

A Nick Lowe-trained 8-year-old, Aglo Pilgrim set the pace before losing by a length to Whirling Ace in a $2,500 starter allowance race on Oregon-bred Day, Dec. 15. He lost by just a neck in his most recent race, against $2,500 foes, at six furlongs on Jan. 6. A repeat of that effort should have Aglo Pilgrim in the win photo again on Friday, and any improvement should lead to a victory.

Another horse that seems to have come around is Capable Quest, who ran off seven straight wins here last season but is winless in six tries at this meet.

Capable Quest was dropped to the $2,500 level last time out, on Jan. 13, and led through five furlongs of a 5 1/2-furlong sprint before finishing second in the best effort of his current campaign. A 6-year-old, he was claimed out of that race by new owner and trainer Sam Davis and could return a quick dividend on Friday.

Other sharp runners in the race include Handy Man Jeff, who just missed winning under Friday's conditions in his next-to-last start, on Dec. 30, and Wacky Joe Wacky, who has run second and third in two starts at the meet and could be ready to show his best stuff.
