After Market sharp in Inglewood

Email

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - After Market turned in arguably the best performance of his nine-race career to win Saturday's $108,200 Inglewood Handicap at Hollywood Park.

The victory was his first since joining trainer John Shirreffs's stable earlier this year, and the third career graded stakes win for the well-bred 4-year-old colt.

Ridden by Alex Solis, After Market ($9.20) rallied from fifth in a field of six to win the Grade 3 Inglewood by two lengths. He ran 1 1/16 miles on turf in a quick 1:39.63.

Solis kept After Market wide throughout the race, and rallied four wide on the second turn before taking the lead in midstretch.

Red Fort, who was making his third appearance in the Inglewood in as many years, passed pacesetter Willow O Wisp in the final sixteenth to finish second. Red Fort was second in 2005.

Willow O Wisp held third, finishing 2 3/4 lengths behind After Market.

A Storm Cat colt, After Market has won 5 of 9 starts and $283,685 for owner-breeders Marty and Pam Wygod.
