Afleet Angel ($12.80), ridden by Wilfredo Lozano Jr., was all out hold off Trainee by a neck in the $100,000 HBPA Stakes at Presque Isle Downs on Saturday evening. New Edition was 1 1/2 lengths back in third. It was the first stakes victory as a trainer for Paula Bacon, although she had won 13 as a jockey. Afleet Angel ran the mile and 70 yards in 1:40.29. Jockey Stewart Elliot won both the Debutante and the Fitz Dixon Jr. Memorial. Elliot piloted Sky Haven ($16.80) to a 2 3/4-length victory in the $100,000 Debutante. Trained by Steve Asmussen, Sky Haven was kept just off the early pace before drawing off through the stretch. Seven Seventythree was second, a length in front of Campfire Girl. Sky Haven ran the six furlongs in 1:10.03, Elliot was aboard King Puma ($3.40) in the $100,000 Fitz Dixon Jr. Memorial, winning by a half-length. Trained by Kelly Breen, a former assistant to Ben Perkins Sr., King Puma ran 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:17.20. Prowl On was second, two lengths in front of Gallatin Forest. Breen and Elliot also combined to win the Grade 3 Kentucky Cup Juvenile at Turfway Park earlier in the day with West Side Bernie.
