Adreamisborn triumphs in Tanforan Handicap

ALBANY, Calif. - Adreamisborn ($4), far off the slow pace set by entrymate Shadow Raider, rallied strongly in the stretch to win the $100,000 Tanforan Handicap at Golden Gate Fields on Saturday.

The 6-year-old gelding was last through the opening mile as he got a ground-saving trip. He swung out for room entering the lane and mowed down his rivals to win going away as he defeated Noble Masterpiece by one length in 2:17.77 for the 1 3/8-mile turf race.

Noble Masterpiece made a strong move, getting first run, but he couldn't hold off Adreamisborn.

"I knew nothing would open up for him into the stretch. Once I got outside, he had it won," winning jockey Russell Baze said.

While Shadow Raider was leading through fractions of 25.37, 51.08, 1:16.29, Adreamisborn was cruising with fractions of 26.87, 52.48, 1:17.39.

"He was better today than he was last time (winning the Grade 3 Bay Meadows Breeders' Cup Handicap)," Baze said. "A hole opened the first time around, and he wanted to go, but I took hold of him. It's all a matter of him relaxing the first part. Today he was good about relaxing for me."

"This is a horse maturity has been very kind to," winning trainer Jerry Hollendorfer said. "He's been running well, and he's fit. I trained him easier for this than I did the last race."

Adreamisborn, who has eight wins, two seconds and two thirds in 12 Northern California turf starts, earned $55,000 for his 10th career victory in 28 starts. His career earnings are now $631,530.
