Adoration takes Senorita Stakes

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Trainer David Hofmans, and owners John and Jerry Amerman, won a stakes race on the first Saturday in May. It just wasn't the one hoped for orginally. With their onetime Kentucky Derby prospect Siphonic on the shelf however, it was up to Adoration to carry the day by winning the Grade 3 Senorita Stakes at Hollywood Park.

Taking advantage of a paceless field, Adoration and jockey Garrett Gomez raced gate to wire in the mile turf stake for 3-year-old fillies. High Society, the 3-5 favorite, finished three-quarters of a length back in second; Nunatall bore out badly on the first turn, then rallied for third. The order of finish in the $107,300 stake was completed by Red Little Lies, Daisyago, and Forty On Line.

Adoration, by Honor Grades, was winning for the second time in five starts, and the slow fractions she set (:47.82, 1:11.39) allowed her overcame a course profile that had been difficult on speed the first eight days of Hollywood's spring-summer meet. Adoration was only the second front-running winner from the first 16 turf routes at Hollywood. She returned $14.60 as the fourth choice, and completed the mile in 1:34.91.
