Adanac won't have it easy

WINNIPEG, Manitoba - Stakes winner Adanac faces a tough test as he tries to go 2 for 2 at Assiniboia Downs in Friday's featured seventh race for $10,000 claimers at five furlongs.

Making his first start outside his home province of British Columbia, Adanac won his initial outing for trainer Jared Brown, defeating $8,000 claimers here on May 8 with a gutsy front-end performance.

A 9-year-old gelding, Adanac should have pace company Friday from Northern Ace, a winner over $10,000 claimers in his only race this year on May 6. Trained by Ardell Sayler, Northern Ace has won 4 of 9 starts at five furlongs.

Sand Rush, third behind Northern Ace in his 2005 debut, could also add to the pace picture.

Lead Hound finished a close second to Northern Ace after an eventful trip May 6, and he will also make his second start of the year.

Making his local debut for trainer Lyle Harris is Major City, a two-time winner at Sam Houston this year.

Adversary and With Glory start for the first time this year.

* Jockey Rohan Singh won three races on Sunday and is second in the local rider standings with seven wins, one behind leading Larren Delorme. Travis Hightower sits alone in third with five wins, while three riders are tied for fourth with four victories apiece.

Sayler won three races last weekend to lead all local trainers with seven wins. Four trainers are tied for second with three victories each.

* Three horses were claimed on both Friday and Saturday. On Friday Fabulous Gal ($5,000), Buck a Shot ($10,000), and Prissy Pants ($4,000) switched barns, followed by Cindy Embers ($9,375), City Parkway ($5,000) and Spanish Johnny ($5,000) on Saturday.
