Adams, trainer, dead of heart attack

Email

Billy Adams, a Thoroughbred trainer for 35 years, died Friday at Fairmount after having a massive heart attack. He was stricken while walking his horse Buck's Little Bean back to the barn after winning the third race on opening night. Fellow trainer Bill Duncan was unsuccessful with CPR attempts at the scene.

Adams, who would have turned 57 on Saturday, typically kept about a dozen horses stabled at Fairmount.

Adams is survived by his wife, Lenita, a daughter, Rebecca, and a granddaughter.

Services were scheduled for Wednesday in Adams's hometown of Benton, Ill.
