Acts Like a King handles move to dirt

Acts Like a King, under jockey Nathan Solomon, sat just off the pace and rallied into the stretch to draw off to a six-length win in the $50,000 Sydney Gendleman at River Downs on Saturday.

Originally carded for the turf, the Gendleman was switched to the main track because of rain in the preceding days.

The field was reduced to seven by the scratches of Tom Archdeacon and Petrel.

Trained by Kris Nemann, Acts Like a King ($14) had a prefect trip in his first out this year, completing 1 1/16 miles over a track rated good in 1:45.00.

Cat Singer, the 3-5 favorite, finished second after taking the lead on the far turn. He was five lengths clear of third-place Ramblin Mike. Catlaunch, the second choice at 3-1 and the 2007 Ohio Handicap Horse of the Year, set the pace to the far turn and faded to fifth.

* Ack Magical ($5.20) won the $35,000 Magic City for Alabama-breds for the second time, finishing 2 1/4 lengths in front of Chief Tudor, the four-time winner of the stakes.
