Acago wins Prix Chloe easily

Longchamp closed its spring season on Tuesday as Acago led throughout as the 2-5 favorite to take the Group 3 Prix Chloe.

Jockey Olivier Peslier put Acago, Kentucky-bred 3-year-old daughter of Royal Academy, on the lead leaving the gate and was soon four lengths clear. He hardly had to move a muscle as Acago came home a four-length winner over Garlinote.

Acago, trained by Criquette Head-Maarek for the Wertheimer brothers, had previously finished second by 1 1/2 lengths in the one-mile Group 2 Prix de Sandringham to Maiden Tower, the French 1000 Guineas runner-up. The extra furlong of the Chloe suited her perfectly, as her time for the 1 1/8 miles on good ground was a quick 1:48.10.

Longchamp will be closed until reopening on Sept. 2 for its autumn meeting, the highlight of which will be the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe on Oct. 5.
