Abbondanza wins the Dave's Friend Stakes at Laurel Park with Enrique Jurado aboard.

Trainer Tim Tullock took a chance by running Abbondanza in Saturday's $75,000 Dave's Friend Stakes at Laurel Park rather than shipping to Delaware Park to face easier competition Sunday in an optional claiming sprint.

Abbondanza ($27.20), a 4-year-old ridden by Enrique Jurado, made Tullock look smart by rallying along the rail to outfinish 3-5 favorite Forest Park by a neck in the 5 1/2-furlong stakes.

A year ago, Abbondanza set the pace for the first half-mile in the Breeders' Cup Sprint before fading to 11th. The Dave's Friend was his first stakes win since he took the Gallant Bob Handicap at Philadelphia Park in early October 2004.

* Larrupin Gal ($11), ridden for the first time by Ryan Fogelsonger, surged to the lead in the upper stretch and drew off to a 3 3/4-length victory over 7-5 favorite Lucrezia in the $50,000 All Brandy, a 1 1/8-mile turf race for Maryland-bred fillies and mares.

* Private Scandal ($12.60), winless in five starts since November 2004 and most recently fourth in the Maryland Million Turf two weeks ago, held off 3-2 favorite Tam's Terms by a half-length in the $50,000 Find Handicap, a 1 1/8-mile turf race for Maryland-breds.
