58 cataloged for Minnesota Thoroughbred Association yearling sale


The catalog for the 2017 Minnesota Thoroughbred Association yearling sale is now online, with 58 Minnesota-breds on offer.

The auction will take place at Canterbury Park in Shakopee, Minn., on Monday, Aug. 21, beginning at 4 p.m. Horses will be available for inspection on Aug. 20, beginning at 6 p.m.

Graduates of the MTA yearling sale that are purchased by a new owner will be eligible for the 2018 Minnesota Yearling Sale Graduate Futurity at Canterbury. The winning bidder will also receive the right to nominate one other Minnesota-bred to the race.

Buybacks are also eligible for nomination by the consignor, with special provisions to include an additional Minnesota-bred.

Breeders of each yearling consigned to the MTA yearling sale that changes hands during the auction will receive a bonus when that horse breaks its maiden in a maiden special weight or allowance race. Minnesota-conceived and –foaled graduates will earn a $2,000 bonus for their breeders, while strictly Minnesota-bred horses will activate a $1,000 bonus.

Owners of Minnesota stallions at the time of conception are also eligible for a $1,000 bonus for a first-time winner in a Canterbury maiden special weight or allowance.

Stallions whose first crops are represented in the catalog include Cross Traffic, Itsmyluckyday, Mucho Macho Man, and Revolutionary.
