$4,410 payoff to 94 in Magna 5

There were just two winning favorites in the Magna 5 on Saturday, and just one winner in the sequence paid double digits. As a result, there were 94 winning $2 tickets, each worth $4,410.80.

Saturday's pool was $531,567. It is guaranteed each week to reach $500,000.

Two of the five races were moved to the dirt from the turf because of wet weather in California.

Delaware River ($20.80) scored an upset in the first leg, the ninth race at Laurel, a one-mile race for mid-level claimers.

English Channel ($5.60) returned from a 4 1/2-month layoff to take the Canadian Turf Handicap, the ninth race at Gulfstream, and the second leg. He was favored.

Sam's Ace ($8) rallied powerfully to capture the third leg, the fourth at Santa Anita, an optional claiming race originally scheduled for the turf.

Megabyte ($7.40) outlasted Shadow Raider and favored Ghost Actor to take the fourth leg, the fourth at Golden Gate, an optional claiming race also originally scheduled for the turf.

Champ Safi ($8.40), the favorite, won the 10th race at Gulfstream, a sprint for maidens.
