The Grade 1, $3 million All American Futurity, the richest race offered for Quarter Horses, leads the Ruidoso Downs stakes schedule. The 440-yard race for 2-year-olds will be run on the final card of the meet Sept. 4. Trials are Aug. 18-19. Ruidoso, which puts on a mixed meet for Quarter Horses and Thoroughbreds, opens May 26. The All American is part of a series for 2-year-olds that starts June 11 with the Grade 1, $1 million Ruidoso Futurity and continues July 23 with the Grade 1, $1 million Rainbow Futurity. Ruidoso also has three major Quarter Horse derbies, the Ruidoso on June 10, the Rainbow on July 22, and the $1.5 million All American on Sept. 3. The annual $1 million Zia Festival spotlights New Mexico-bred Quarter Horses and Thoroughbreds with 12 stakes July 29-30. ◗ Trials for the Remington Park Futurity for Quarter Horses will be run Friday and Saturday night. The finale will be worth $1 million for the first time when it is run April 22. There are 217 horses entered in the trials.
