$270,000 High Chaparral colt tops Arqana session at Deauville

Ecurie des Monceaux and the Mandore International Agency topped another auction session Monday at Arqana’s Deauville yearling sale in France as selling moved into Part 2.

Mandore, paid 220,000 euros, or about $270,600, for Ecurie des Monceaux’s High Chaparral-Nightdance Sun colt on Monday to kick off the French sale’s second half. The bay colt is from the family of German champion Next Desert and is the second foal for his unraced dam.

On Sunday, Mandore purchased the Part 1 sale-topper from Ecurie des Monceaux for about $1.4 million. That was a gray colt from European champion Sea the Stars’s first crop that Ecurie des Monceaux bred in partnership with Skymarc Farm. Mandore bought colt, the first foal of Group 1 winner Alpine Rose, for Sheikh Joaan al-Thani.

Monday’s Part 2 opener sold 96 yearlings for about $6,742,860, for an average price of about $70,238. The median was about $57,810. Buybacks were 7 percent.

The sale was to continue with a final Part 2 session on Tuesday in Deauville.
