$215K mare tops session

The $215,000 broodmare Enduring Legacy sold Tuesday to top the first two days of selling at Florida's Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's fall mixed auction. Y-Lo Racing Stables purchased the 5-year-old Saint Ballado mare, a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Star over the Bay and one of two lots to bring $200,000 or more in the first two of four days' selling. The other was a $200,000 weanling filly by Yes It's True that sold Monday.

The Tuesday session sold 186 horses for $4,040,000, down from last year's total of $4,329,000 for 222 lots. Average price increased 11 percent, from $19,500 last year to $21,720.

Tuesday's session-topper, Enduring Legacy, was cataloged in foal to Speightstown and was sold as part of the complete dispersal of Four Horsemen's Ranch.

The Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday sessions are consignor-preferred sessions and were to be followed by a yearling session on Thursday morning and open sessions on Thursday afternoon and Friday.

Monday's session-topping weanling, named Truly Genuine, went to Jess Jackson's Stonestreet Stables. Janie Roper was the consigning agent on behalf of Ron and Libby Gay. The filly is a daughter of the Great Above mare Genuine Goer and is a half-sister to the stakes-placed runner Bases Are Loaded.

The auction was to continue Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the OBS facility in Ocala, Fla.
