WHEN IS CHURCHILL going to have a .10 super on the Derby? Jeeze thats what they have computers for!
Richard Wall More than 1 year ago
With the exception of Orb, I think this was the least competitive Derby I have ever seen. Too many other horses who should have out performed place and show horses. And, NO, You can't blame it on a sloppy track for Grade 1 fields of horses.

I was wondering does anyone know of a worse race caller than Mark Johnson in The USA? Churchill Downs had to be nuts to hire this guy, he is pathetic, pitiful and boring. Think gosh the network uses Larry Collmus who is great. I only hear the calls of 12 or 15 of these guys, so help me out is anybody worse than Mark Johnson?
Matt Bernier More than 1 year ago
You can't be serious, right? Mark Johnson is as professional a race caller as you'll find in the states. No doubt Larry Collmus is right at the top of the list when it comes to announcers, but saying Johnson is "pathetic" and "pitiful" is ridiculous. He's an accurate race caller...which is the most important thing an announcer can be - accurate. If you're looking for someone screaming throughout the race, then he's not your guy. If you're looking for an accurate, thoughtful race call - Mark Johnson is fully capable of delivering that.

Bob you ever heard 'of blinkers

I hope everyone noticed the 22 & 45 joke ride by Mike Smith in the derby, I think this race should be investigated and jockey and trainer should be suspended. This horse nver went to the front and was a dead closer
Eugene Dawson More than 1 year ago
you are a clown.
bill n More than 1 year ago
The only clown is YOU Eugene. Pletcher used PM as a rabbit.
Sam Shelby More than 1 year ago
No, he is a presser/stalker. Please know what you are talking about.
bill n More than 1 year ago
No he is not you old bastard.
Jef Fawell More than 1 year ago
wake up, all he was trying to do was steal the race on the front, which with fractions like that at that distance is SUICIDE!!!!!! The experianced handicappers knew he wouldn't last!!!!! I just wish Javier would have a little more patience.
bill n More than 1 year ago
First of all Mike Smith was on him Jef. Get your FACTS straight.
bill n More than 1 year ago
You are exactly right Bob. PM was used as a rabbit. You just must accept that is what Todd Pletcher and Mike Smith did for Todd's four other horses in the race.
Infinity More than 1 year ago
Mike Smith ride was NONSENSE---HOF, Jockey---what a joke. My god man, what were you thinking--two years iin a row. Orb is a nice colt--so much for a reasonable pace for 10 panels.
Pr0punter More than 1 year ago
Apparently you have lost all logic my friend the BLINKERS attributed to the way the horse ran don't let the few $$ you lost cloud you judgement.

Tell the announced Java's War was #4 in the Bluegrass. He did't give Golden Soul his due coming down the lane, he called Java's War, what an idiot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Randy Atkins More than 1 year ago
boy that's a weird comment...can't understand what you're talking about
WayneTM55 More than 1 year ago
Randy, he's referring to the race call at the track by Mark Johnson, not the call on the NBC broadcast by Larry Colmus. If you listen to the call at CD, Johnson clearly says shortly before the finish that Java's War is flying. But he immediately corrected himself saying in fact it's Golden Soul. actually an honest, yet unfortunate, mistake. Both Java's War and Golden Soul have the same owner; thus the jockeys wore identical silks, which is what the track announcers mainly use. And I'm sure in his pre-race preparation, he was ready to possibly see Java's War running late - never expecting Golden Soul being the one to be putting in such a strong late run.
