2012 Kentucky Derby: Mark Valeski, Optimizer, Isn't He Clever, Trinniberg work on Monday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Potential Kentucky Derby starters Mark Valeski, Optimizer and Isn't He Clever worked after the renovation break at Churchill Downs on Monday, while a fourth, Trinniberg, breezed Monday at Calder. Daddy Nose Best and Sabercat both turned in Derby works earlier that morning.

At Churchill Downs, Mark Valeski worked five furlongs in 59.63 seconds, going in company with his regular rider Rose Napravnik aboard, before galloping out six furlongs in 1:14.61. He followed  Optimizer, 22nd on the graded earnings list, who went an easy half mile in 48.82 and out five-eighths in 1:02.82 for trainer D. Wayne Lukas.

Isn’t He Clever, 21st on the graded earnings list, waited until after the special Derby-Oaks training session to breeze a very easy half mile in 51.60. Isn’t He Clever joined trainer Steve Asmussen’s stable over the weekend.

At Calder, Trinniberg worked five-eighths in 1:02.40 under jockey Jose Alvarez, galloping out six furlongs. Trainer Bisnath Parboo and his son, owner Shivananda Parbhoo, confirmed their intention this weekend to start Trinniberg in the Derby.
