LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Trainer Steve Asmussen’s hopefuls Daddy Nose Best and Sabercat had their penultimate works for the Kentucky Derby early Monday morning at Churchill Downs.

Working under the lights before sunrise, Daddy Nose Best went six furlongs in 1:13.70, according to Daily Racing Form, finishing under pressure about a length in front of his graded-stakes-placed stablemate Z Dager. Daddy Nose Best, who shaded 24 for his final quarter, galloped out seven-eighths in 1:27.10 while having to alter course around a couple of gallopers on the clubhouse turn.

Like Daddy Nose Best, Sabercat broke off outside and a half-length behind a workmate, Major Hope, when breezing five furlongs about a half-hour later. Sabercat, a distant third in the Arkansas Derby, completed the distance in a more leisurely 1:02.62, also finishing one length clear of his partner, before galloping out six furlongs in 1:16.32.
