Wise Dan has my support!
I simply cannot get this site to accept most of my picks, so I am done with it after a few attempts. I'd be shocked if he won, but I too have to go with I'll Have Another. The most famous horse this year, 4 for 4, three grade 1's and two thirds of the Triple Crown are all facts that beat the older grass miler, Wise Dan. I don't see anyone else as being in the running, though those who think the BC Classic is the end be all/end all just might go for Fort Larned, who would be the weakest HOY in memory. It would, however, confirm the mediocrity of thoroughbred racing in 2012.
I would have to choose between I'll Have Another, Wise Dan, and Royal Delta, but of course there are no ties, so I would chose I'll Have Another only because I think he would have won the Belmont...........
I choose, I'll have another. That would be my favorite.
Its a toss up between I'll have another career and wise dan
For me it's a toss up between I'll Have Another and Wise Dan. Which one did more? So many "if's" with I'll Have Another, but those "if's" have only made me think that he has an edge over Wise Dan. Decisions, decisions....
Just because the candle blew out too soon on I’ll Have Another’s career, does not mean, for me, anyway, that his accomplishments in 2012 don't stack up against the other "pretenders". It doesn't get much bigger than two Triple Crown races, which include America's biggest race, 3 Grade 1s, and 4 graded stakes. It seems that the only crime he committed is he didn't make any more starts. He could have run 8 times and still only won the 4 races and I believe he would have been a shoo-in for HOY, along with divisional honors. Every candidate mentioned for HOY falls short of what even those inside the sport say they prefer: classic winner, classic distances, dirt, dominance in division. Wise Dan's only dirt try he lost, otherwise he is basically a miler running on turf. Turf champ I understand, not HOY. For those wanting to “split” the vote and give Wise Dan the HOY and Little Mike the divisional honors – again for me – doesn’t make any sense. If Wise Dan gets the HOY, then he must also get the divisional honor, since his accomplishments in his division are the primary reason for his selection as HOY. JMHO
Martin you are right...by far Frankel is the best horse of the year in the World. But since the Eclipse is for horses that raced in America, basically, I will stick with the one that won the foremost race in the U.S.A.: the Kentucky Derby...for me is I"ll Have Another. Wise Dan a darned goodhorse, but who did he beat?; just a regular bunch of horses.
WISE DAN for me :)
Have to go with Wise Dan.
