$165K colt tops Woodbine

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - A $165,000 colt by West by West topped the select portion of the Fasig-Tipton Sale of Canadian-bred yearlings at Woodbine on Tuesday.

Jeffrey Begg, as agent, bought the sale topper, who is the first foal from the stakes-placed Regal Classic mare Never Can Tell. Woodlands, agent, was the consignor.

A total of 151 yearlings brought $6,258,500 during Tuesday's session, which yielded an average price of $41,447, and a median of $35,000. There were 39 horses listed as not sold. There was no comparable session in 2001, because Fasig-Tipton did not run the sale and a different format was in place.

Trainer Roger Attfield paid $150,000 for a son of Smart Strike, consigned by Anderson Farm, agent. He is out of stakes-placed Star Reputation, dam of stakes winner Dark Hours and Prince of Wales second For Our Sake.

A filly by Kiridashi brought $120,000 from Morgan Firestone. Consigned by Park Stud, she is out of Mythical Zerah, the dam of winner Flashy Silver.
