144 pre-enter Millions

Led by the multiple stakes winner Midas Eyes, 144 horses have been pre-entered for the eight stakes on the $3.6 million program at Gulfstream Park and Santa Anita on Jan. 29.

The series is restricted to horses bred in Florida or California.

The day's richest race is the $1 million Classic over 1 1/8 miles at Gulfstream Park, which drew 20 pre-entries. The Florida-bred side includes Midas Eyes, the winner of the Grade 1 Forego Handicap at Saratoga last September, and Limehouse, who was fourth in the 2004 Kentucky Derby. The California-bred team is led by Cozy Guy and Lava Man, the first two finishers in the $250,000 California Cup Classic in October.

The most popular races at the pre-entry stage were the $500,000 Turf over 1 1/8 miles (24 pre-entries) and the $300,000 Sprint over six furlongs (23). They will be run at Santa Anita along with the $250,000 Oaks for 3-year-old fillies, which drew 18 pre-entries, and the $500,000 Distaff, which drew 13.

The other Gulfstream Park races are the $250,000 Dash for 3-year-olds (18 pre-entries), $500,000 Filly and Mare Turf over 1 1/8 miles (17), and $300,000 Filly and Mare Sprint over six furlongs (11).

The fields will be limited to 14 starters in sprints and 12 in routes.
