$100K filly leads at Ocala

One day after suffering across-the-board declines at its select session, the Ocala Breeders' Sales Co.'s August yearling sale continued Tuesday in Ocala, Fla., with a $100,000 Western Pride filly the session leader by late afternoon.

Eddie Woods, agent, purchased the chestnut daughter of graded-placed stakes winner So Much More. Signature Sales consigned the filly as Hip No. 375. She is the first foal for her dam, an earner of $381,516.

The Tuesday session was the first of four open sessions.

Monday's select session saw decreases of 40 percent in gross receipts, with 115 yearlings bringing $5,778,000, as compared with 167 selling for $9,679,500 at the 2007 session. The average price fell 13 percent, and the median declined 20 percent.

The Monday session's top price was $200,000 for a Macho Uno filly out of Top of the League, a Light the Fuse mare.

Final results for the second session were not available by 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. The sale was scheduled to run through Friday.
