Alcibiades Stakes: Race 9 at Keeneland

Friday, October 7

Sweet Cat, Egg Drop and Tavern On the Bay will contest the pace right from the start. I expect the fractions to be quick.

(4) TU ENDIE WEI invades Keeneland from Woodbine racecourse in Toronto Canada undefeated in 2 starts, both in stakes races. Her connections must have thought very high of her before she ever set foot on the track, by entering the 2 year old in the $155,000 My Dear first time out of the box. Their opinion of her was validated with a powerful off the pace victory breaking from post 13 in a field 14. Today she attempts 2 turns for the first time, facing 13 rivals who all appear to be vulnerable to a filly who appears to have tremendous upside and from very good connections. Tu Endie Wei, is a homebred, and a half sister to Biofuel, who has won 6 races, 4 in stakes travelling a distance of ground. Last time out, she defeated a quality filly named Northern Passion, who came back to win impressively in her subsequent start. Tu Endie Wei has shown versatility, closing from far back in her debut and then forcing the pace in the Ontario Deb. The ability to adapt to different running styles can only help her in a race like today's Grade 1 Alcibiades confronting another full field. It is sometimes difficult to get a proper gauge on Canadian form as it translates to the same age group in the US. Watching many races for 2 year olds at Woodbine this season, I have come to the conclusion that the better ones class up very well. Since Tu Endie Wei last raced 55 days ago, trainer Reade Baker has worked her 4 times. Baker is having a strong meet . He has proven over the years an uncanny knack at developing 2 year olds using patience and spotting them well. She draws post 4, which will allow jockey Mcaleney, who has been aboard both starts, to save valuable ground and get to the rail or close to it entering the first turn, with 3 off the pace runners breaking inside of her.

Play (4) TU ENDIE WEI to WIN and PLACE.
