Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino will close the 2010 Thoroughbred Race Meet with Iowa Classic Night on August 7th, 2010. Come out and see the Rockin’ and Racing themed parade through the streets of Altoona at 11:00 am. The night’s festivities will be highlighted by seven stakes for Iowa registered horses which total more than $500,000 in purses.

The stakes offerings will kick off with the Iowa Sorority and Iowa Cradle, six furlong stakes for two year olds worth $75,000 each. Owner/Breeder William Hobbs’ Launch Light Lady will look to score her third consecutive victory in the Iowa Sorority.

The three year olds will try their luck in the Iowa Breeders’ Oaks and Iowa Breeders’ Derby at a mile and seventy yards, and a mile and a sixteenth, respectively. The $75,000 Iowa Breeder’s Derby will feature the Lynn Chleborad trainee Cainam, whom will be trying for his fourth win at the meet.

The Iowa Classic Sprint at six furlongs features the seven-year-old gelding Wild L Trained by Kelly Von Hemel, Wild L has nine wins and over $300,000 in earnings over the track.

The older horses will meet to settle season-long rivalries for the last time this meet in the Donna Reed and Ralph Hayes. Breeder/Owner/Trainer Larry Dunbar’s aptly-named LD’s She’s Special will try for her third win at the meet. She will take on many of the rivals she defeated in the Hawkeyes Handicap on June 11, including Champagne Attitude, Go Milan Go, and Tak A Joke.

Prairie Meadows will feature a pick three and daily double on all stakes, as well as a special pick six on races four through nine. First post is 6:30pm, don’t get shut out.
