Zenyatta goes once around at Del Mar

The big girl has arrived at Del Mar.

Zenyatta galloped once around the track Wednesday morning, but not before she checked it out. Not before everyone stopped what they were doing to check her out.

Zenyatta (looking into camera) came onto the main track at 9:15 a.m. and for 10 minutes stood virtually motionless in the backstretch chute. After her and trainer John Shirreffs were satisfied, it was time to go. Zenyatta and exercise ride Steve Willard galloped one mile.

The perfect show continues in race 9 Saturday. Five other fillies and mares entered the Grade 1 Clement L. Hirsch Stakes, the mile and a sixteenth race in which Zenyatta will try to make it 18-0.

Is she a sure thing? Of course not.

Del Mar is where Zenyatta nearly got beat last year; the distance is shorter than she likes. Betting windows will be open.

Does anyone realize that she won at 6 1/2 furlongs? She could beat this field running backwards.

Please believe Brad, people, and bet against Zenyatta, so I can get a bigger payoff! She is the most amazing horse, male or female, this lifelong horseman has ever seen. She is heaven sent ... a $4 mutuel be much appreciated.

I think Zenyatta is better suited at 1 1/4 miles ... even if that means running against boys, she will get a weight break and she needs that added distance. She beat the best in the world on Breeders' Cup day last year and had her best Beyer 112. These 1 1/16 races are way too short for her ... eventually these shorter distances will end her streak.

So she hates the track, the distance is horrible for her, she almost lost here last year and winning this race would prove absolutely nothing to no one. Do I have everything there? Sounds like this race is a great choice.
