TP: Nice festive crowd

TP prez Bob Elliston worried this week that the Univ. of Kentucky basketball game this evening would wreck ontrack attendance for the track's showcase race, the G2 Lane's End Stakes. No worries. Nice weather (sun, high-50s temps) and the traditional upbeat, young-ish type crowd had Elliston beaming while he looked around on the packed ground floor just prior to the first of the 6 straight stakes race, the $50k Queen (race 5).

"It looks like we're trending toward 18,000 to 20,000, which is our usual number for this day," said Elliston. "I'm happy."

The Kentucky game starts at 7 p.m. ET and can be expected to have people scurrying for the exits shortly after the Lane's End (race 9) is run at 5:12.

As for notable changes on the 12-race card, Kettle River (No. 4) has been scratched from the Lane's End, leaving a field of 9 3yos. Connemara figures in the even-money range with Russell Baze up for Todd Pletcher.

Trainer Eoin Harty told TP officials that Kettle River likely will race in the G2 Coolmore Lexington at Kee on April 17.
