Tampa Bay: first start in more than 4 years

An 8yo horse named Luxembourg made his first start in more than 4 years when dropped in for an $8k tag in the 8th race Thursday at Tampa Bay Downs. Trained as a 3yo by Rick Dutrow, the son of Wild Rush won a mdn race and an Aqu alw race to briefly enter Triple Crown consideration. Owned by Will Farish, he last raced in Sept '06 before being turned over to trainer Mark Casse before coming here recenttly to Mike Zweisler.

"I've had him about 2 weeks," said Zweisler. "Mark kept him going for 4 years. No, they didn't try to make a stud out of him."

Luxembourg raced in mid-pack about halfway through the 6-panel race before beating a steady fade and finishing last of 11 as the 5-2 favorite. His jockey, Ronnie Allen Jr., dismounted the horse near the six-furlong pole after galloping out following the race. The horse ambulance picked up Luxembourg and transported him off, although whatever injury he may have suffered did not appear catastrophic.
