Saratoga: Two horses die; Desormeaux to hospital


Kent Desormeaux after fall at SaratogaDay 37 of the Saratoga has not gotten off to a great start. In the first race, Seis de Mayo, a 3-year-old son of Dixieland Band trained by John Toscano. suffered fractured sesamoids and had to be euthanized. He had been pulled up at the half-mile pole by jockey Abel Lezcano.

 In the second race, Forest Whip, a 2-year-old son of Forestry trained by Bill Mott, suffered a heart attack in mid-stretch and died instantly. Her jockey, Kent Desormeaux, was thrown hard to the dirt course. He was taken by ambulance to Saratoga Hospital for X-rays. He was complaining of a sore shoulder.

The third race, the $70,000 Saratoga Dew Stakes won by Wicked Diva, was completed without incident.
