Saratoga: Questionable disqualification

The lack of consistency in the stewards' stand never ceases to amaze.

Palooza finished first by 1 1-4 lengths over Overseas Market, the 2-1 second choice. Palooza did dirift over several paths in deep stretch, but was definitely clear of Overseas Market, who was steadied by Ramon Dominguez. Dominguez claimed foul against the first-place finisher after the stewards flashed the inquiry sign. After a lengthy review of the incident, the stewards made the disqualfication, just the second DQ from win at the meet.

The disqualification was curious considering it DID NOT alter the outcome of the race. There was NO WAY Overseas Market was catching Palooza. The stewards had been basing their decisions on whether the incident altered the outcome of the race. Now, it's anyone's guess as to what constitutes a DQ and what doesn't.

  Good luck to all!
