Saratoga: Quebrada Shiner gets there, with a little help

Email

Things looked bleak for Quebrada Shiner (5th, $3.80) in upper stretch, but the favored dropdown split horses inside the eighth pole and was up to nail Connie Mac in the final strides of a 5 1/2-furlong turf sprint.

Connie Mac was clear in midstretch under Julien Leparoux, who put his stick away and hand rode his filly late, apparently never seeing Quebrada Shiner on the outside.

Diamond Dina, meanwhile, was a late scratch - the 23rd in 23 racing days.
