Saratoga: Fancy Point wire to wire in P.G. Johnson

Fancy Point (8th, $9.70), a bit unsettled in the paddock and again behind the gate, settled down for a wire-to-wire victory in the $70,000 P.G. Johnson Stakes for 2-year-old fillies.

A homebred from the late George M. Steinbrenner's Kinsman Stable, Fancy Point was stretching out and switching to turf after a fourth-place finish in her debut at six furlongs for trainer Will Phipps. She was the third choice in a field of eight.

The daughter of Point Given ran 1 1/16 miles in 1:42.78 on the inner course with Javier Castellano, who pulled to within 49-48 of John Velazquez in their see-saw battle for the meet title.
