Santa Anita: Zamora, John post upset

Trainer Ricardo Zamora scored his first win of 2011 when Skimming Skipper, ridden by Kerwin John, pulled an upset in Saturday's eighth race, a $12,500 claimer for non-winners of two.

Skimming Skipper ($25.80) led for much of the race, was challenged by runner-up Anga in the stretch and then repelled that challenge while racing on the rail to win by a neck.  Anga held second, with 8-1 Free Beer third in the field of nine. Skimming Skipper ran 1 1-16 miles in 1:44.44.

Zamora trains a small stable. Skimming Skipper was his 10th starter, and first winner of the year.

No favorites have won pick six races on Saturday. Skimming Skipper won the fourth leg. The first three winners were Tribal Nation ($17.60), Joyful Success ($12.20) and Queen Mariles ($9).
