Santa Anita: Waterman ends drought

Trainer Stanley Waterman, who has three horses based at Hollywood Park, had his first winner in nearly three years when Hostile Waters rallied in the final furlong to win a maiden claimer over 6 1-2 furlongs.

Ridden by Jose Verenzuela, Hostile Waters ($4.80) finsihed a half-length of Quietly Waiting. Guadalupe Lupe was third in the field of seven, which did not include Bobby's N Paradise and K. Jems, who were scratched early Saturday.

Waterman was winless with six starters in 2010. Hostile Waters, a 5-year-old gelding, was second at 70-1 on Jan. 1 in a $20,000 claiming race for maidens, and won at that level on Saturday. The victory was Waterman's first since April 2008 at Bay Meadows.
