Jockey Patrick Valenzuela won for the fourth time with as many runners on Saturday's card when California Soldier caught pacesetter Our Nastique in the sixth race, the March Madness Starter Handicap over a mile on turf.

California Soldier ($8.60) was timed in 1:36.75 and was making his first start for trainer Julio Canani, having been claimed for $40,000 on Feb. 21. California Soldier won by 1 1-4 lengths over Our Nastique in the field of five.

Earlier in the day, Valenzuela won the first race on Take a Yard ($16.40), the third with Kahlua Mist ($6) and the fourth with Leaving New York ($12.60).

Valenzuela has excellent chances to win two more races; he rides Van Brit, the second choice on the morning-line in the eighth race, and Queenofcalifornia, the morning-line favorite, in the ninth race.
