Santa Anita: Unzip Me is brilliant; Reba is retired

Email

Unzip Me won her seventh stakes in the last year in the $93,150 Clocker's Corner Handicap in Saturday's fifth race, a race in which 2011 stakes winner Reba Is Tops could only finish third.

After the race, trainer Mark Glatt said Reba Is Tops will be retired. She was scheduled to be retired after winning the Wishing Well  Stakes on Jan. 30, but emerged from the race in such good condition that Glatt and the partnership that owns the mare decided to extend her career. She is booked to be bred to Broken Vow this spring.

Unzip Me won the Clocker's Corner Handicap by three-quarters of a length over 3-1 Broken Dreams, with Reba Is Tops a neck behind Broken Dreams in the field of seven. Unzip Me ($3.60) ran about 6 1-2 furlongs on the hillside turf course in 1:12.61, her second stakes win of the year. She won the Grade 3 Monrovia Stakes on the hillside turf course on Jan. 2. Owned by a parternship and trained by Marty Jones, Unzip Me's only losses in the last year have been two-third-place finishes against males, including the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint at Churchill Downs in November.
