Santa Anita: Unlucky Blue Chagall

Blue Chagall was an unlucky fifth in Saturday's $100,000 Thunder Road Handicap over a mile on turf, finishing 2 1-4 lengths behind race winner Fluke after a tough trip on the turn.

Ridden by Garrett Gomez, Blue Chagall wa steadied on the turn and into the stretch and could not make up the needed ground in teh final furlong. He was a 10-1 chance, a tough blow for bettors who rightfully thought he had a chance to win the Grade 3 race.

Trained by Julio Canani, Blue Chagall, a 6-yeear-old gelding, could start in the $300,000 Frank Kilroe Mile on March 5, which would be a tough race. The Grade 1 Kilroe is expected to include the stakes winner Caracortado, Fluke, Jeranimo, Sidney's Candy, and The Usual Q.T.
