Santa Anita: Two claims in 1st

There were two claims in Friday's first race, though race winner Gilligan ($4.40) was not among them.

Courtside Action, who finished third in the field of six, was claimed for $16,000 by Bill Spawr.

Royal Import, who finished fourth, was claimed for $16,000 in a two-way shake by trainer Hector Palma, who lost the 4-year-old gelding via a $12,500 claim on Feb. 21. Royal Import has now been claimed in his last three starts. His race last month was the only start that Royal Import made for Palma, having been claimed from trainer Bob Hess, Jr., on Jan. 22.

Gilligan won the race over 1 1-16 miles by 6 1-2 lengths under Joe Talamo in 1:43.50.
