Jockey Joe Steiner finished a close second in Friday's sixth race on Woodland Flood, a 34-1 shot who led in the stretch of a $10,500 to $12,500 claimer over a mile but was beaten a head by Saravas Wild Again ($19.20).
Prior to Friday, Steiner last rode at Santa Anita in April 2005, a layoff initally caused by a shoulder injury. In recent years, Steiner, 46, had worked as an exercise rider, primarily for trainer Bob Baffert.
Woodland Flood finished a nose in front of 10-1 Concerto's Thunder, who was a head in front of 4-1 Capt. Sparrow. Equiparado, the 9-5 favorite, bled visibly from the nostrils and was eased through the stretch.

LOVE TO RUN was rarin' to go first out in two months, so much so that he rocketed through a six-furlong split of 1:08.79 seconds - faster than Cross Traffic in the Westchester at the same one-mile distance a few days earlier; back-to-back Belmont wins last year included one rallying from next-to-last, so he may make good use of outside draw to track COLIZEO. The latter drops to same second-level condition where he won big first off R-Rod claim; reunited with Jose Ortiz, who was aboard for that score on wet track.
